Explanation: The slash in the chord name indicates that the second letter is added as a new bass note. Em7/A should therefore be read as E minor seventh chord with an A note in the bass and so forth. Note that Em7/A would also be possible to play using two hands without an inversion.
Theory: Em7/A could be seen as an inversion of Em11 with the ninth omitted. Em7/C could be seen as an inversion of Em13 with the ninth and the eleventh omitted.
