Instructions:
This is a chord finder designed for inversions, including 3- and 4-note chords. Use it to find root positions and inversions of piano chords.

Choose a chord by select the root note (e.g. C) and the quality (e.g. 7th).

Select root position or an inversion from the buttons "Root Position", "1st Inversion", "2nd Inversion" and "3rd Inversion". Notice that 3rd inversions are not an option for triads.

If needed, deselect all selected parameters by clicking the "Clear" button.

Toggle between sharp (#) or flat (b) symbols by clicking the "# / b" button.

Explanations of inversions

Short explanations of chord inversions.

Root position - the chord in its regular form.
1st inversion - The order of notes changes to 3, 5, 1 (in a triad).
2nd inversion - The order of notes changes to 5, 1, 3 (in a triad).
3rd inversion - The order of notes changes to 7, 1, 3, 5 (in a four-note chord).
