Low and High Notes

In music, sounds can be low or high depending on their pitch. Low notes have a deep, rich sound and are often called bass notes. They’re found on the left side of the piano. High notes, on the other hand, have a light, bright sound and are called treble notes. They’re found on the right side of the piano.

Recognizing whether a note is low or high is an important skill in ear training. It helps you understand melodies, chords and harmonies. The closer the notes are in pitch, the harder it is to identify which one is lower or higher.
